KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index extended its losses for a third straight session, dropping 17.93 points to close at 1,876.60 points on Wednesday.

Although the Nepse index initially posted gains, breaching the psychological 1,900-point mark and reaching an intra-day high of 1,907.07 points, it lost momentum and ultimately ended the day 0.94% lower.

Except for the ‘Others’ sub-index, which recorded a nominal growth of 2.39 points, all other grading groups concluded the day in the red. The most significant loss came from the Manufacturing & Processing Group, which was down by 2.13%. Following on the list were the Non-life Insurance and Life Insurance sub-indices, which fell by 1.53% and 1.52%, respectively.

On the day, share prices of only 42 companies advanced, while 190 declined, and seven remained unchanged. Sonapur Minerals & Oil Ltd recorded the highest turnover of the day, with Rs 62.89 million worth of shares traded. NIC Asia Debenture 81/82 and Citizen Life International Insurance Company Ltd followed with turnovers of Rs 50.35 million and Rs 36.80 million, respectively.

Shares worth Rs 1.01 billion were traded on the bourse on Wednesday through 29,883 transactions.
