Nepse down 7.33 points; daily turnover improves to Rs 5.93 billion

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index posted a loss of 7.33 points, closing trading at 2,588.62 points on Thursday—the last trading day of the week.

Although the benchmark index posted gains, reaching an intraday high of 2,616.65 points in early trading, it lost momentum as the day progressed and eventually ended the session 0.28% lower.

Unit prices of 151 scrips declined during the session, while 89 advanced and three remained unchanged. Sindhu Bikash Bank logged the highest turnover of the session with Rs 285.72 million worth of shares traded. Next were NRN Infrastructure & Development Ltd and Sanima Middle Tamor Hydropower Ltd, with turnovers of Rs 211.83 million and Rs 144.25 million, respectively.

Sector-wise, hydropower stocks were the most traded scrips on the bourse on Thursday, with Rs 2.8 billion worth of shares of different hydropower companies traded during the session. Next were the Finance and Development sectors, with Rs 889.16 million and Rs 532.88 million worth of shares traded, respectively.

Among trading groups, five logged gains, while the remaining eight ended the session in the red. The biggest gain came from the Trading sub-index, which was up by 2.03%. Similarly, the Finance sub-index recorded the biggest loss of 5.19% during the session.

Securities worth Rs 5.93 billion were traded on the bourse through 70,634 transactions on Thursday.
