Nepse down 57.99 points; turnover falls to Rs 5.9 billion

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index tanked 57.99 points and closed trading at 2,639.92 points on Monday.

The benchmark index dropped into the red territory right after trading began on Monday morning. Although the index made recovery efforts, it eventually closed the session 2.14% lower.

Unit prices of 221 scrips declined during the session, while 23 advanced. Himalayan Reinsurance Ltd logged the highest turnover of the session with shares worth Rs 220.36 million traded. Following were Ngadi Group Power Ltd and Kumari Bank Ltd with turnovers of Rs 177.65 million and Rs 176.86 million, respectively.

All trading groups logged losses during the session. The biggest loss came from the Finance sub-index, which was down by 3.38%. Next were the Investment and Others sub-indices with losses of 2.51% and 2.34%, respectively. Market heavyweight Banking sub-index was also down by 2.3%.

Securities worth Rs 5.9 billion were traded on the bourse on Monday, down from Sunday’s Rs 7.86 billion. The number of transactions also fell to 70,823 compared to 86,115 on Sunday.
