KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index registered a loss of 53.63 points and ended the first trading day of the week at 2,695.93 on Sunday.
Although the benchmark index posted gains initially, hitting an intra-day high of 2,781.71 points, it soon started losing value and eventually ended the session 1.95% lower.
Nepse has lost 278.53 points over the past five sessions. The benchmark index has consistently lost value after breaching the psychological 3,000-point mark on August 15.
Share prices of 209 companies declined on Sunday, while 31 advanced and four remained unchanged. Goodwill Finance Ltd logged the session’s highest turnover with Rs 523.11 million worth of shares traded. Next were Himalayan Reinsurance Ltd and Nepal Finance Ltd with turnovers of Rs 334.41 million and Rs 333.413 million, respectively.
All the trading groups, except Mutual Fund, which posted a marginal 0.8% gain, recorded losses. The biggest loss came from the Finance sub-index, which was down by 3.44%. Next were the Hotels & Tourism and Hydropower sub-indices with losses of 2.98% and 2.4%, respectively.
Turnover fell to Rs 10.51 billion on Sunday, with 26.24 million units of shares traded through 130,632 transactions.
