Nepse down 5.31 points

KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index extended its slump for a third straight session, losing 5.31 points to end trading at 2,061.70 points on Sunday.

Trading began on a bitter note as the index dropped to an intra-day low of 2,541.15 points within a few minutes of trading. Although the benchmark index made recovery attempts, climbing to an intra-day high of 2,072.90, it failed to sustain the growth and ultimately fell 0.25% lower.

Share prices of 132 companies declined on the day, while 104 companies advanced and 11 remained unchanged. Himalayan Reinsurance Ltd topped the list of stocks in terms of turnover on Sunday, with Rs 335.83 million worth of shares traded. Asian Life Insurance Company Ltd and Nepal Infrastructure Bank Ltd were next with turnovers of Rs 129.86 million and Rs 120.32 million, respectively.

Among trading groups, four posted gains while nine ended the day in the red. The biggest loss came from the Others sub-index which was down by 1.04%. The Development Bank sub-index, on the other hand, posted the highest gain of 0.66%.

Shares worth Rs 3.21 billion were traded on the bourse, the lowest since December 14, 2023, through 70,790 transactions.
