Nepse down 45.36 points; turnover rises to Rs 5.76 billion

KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) continued its losing streak, closing 45.36 points lower at 2,559.59 points on Wednesday.

With this, the benchmark fell below the psychological 2,600-point level for the first time since September 18, when the index shed 160.33 points and ended trading at 2,511.91 points.

Despite the decline in the index, trading volume increased to Rs 5.76 billion compared to Rs 4.62 billion on Tuesday. A total of 13.74 million units were traded through 63,509 transactions on Wednesday.

Unit prices of 232 scrips declined during the session, while 18 advanced and one remained unchanged. Nepal Reinsurance Company logged the highest turnover of the session with shares worth Rs 261.69 million traded. Next were Union Hydropower Limited and Synergy Power Development Ltd with turnovers of Rs 244.91 million and Rs 225.02 million.

All trading groups ended the session in the red. The biggest loss came from the Finance sub-index, which was down by 3.09%. Next were Hotels & Tourism and Hydropower sub-indices with losses of 3.03% and 2.34%, respectively.
