Nepse down 4.18 points; turnover also falls to Rs 8.66 billion

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) slipped 4.18 points and closed trading at 2,833.60 points on Monday—the first trading day of the week.

The index dipped in early trading but recovered, hitting an intra-day high of 2,849.1 points, raising hopes among investors. However, the index moved into negative territory and remained in the red throughout the session.

Unit prices of 153 scrips declined during the session, while 105 advanced and 12 remained unchanged. National Hydropower Company Ltd logged the highest transaction volume of the session, with R 931.94 million worth of shares traded. Next were Ridi Power Company Ltd and Reliance Spinning Mill Ltd with turnovers of Rs 491.96 million and Rs 454.43 million, respectively.

Despite Nepse’s decline, four companies hit the positive circuit of 10%, while three others saw their share prices go up by more than 9%. Total turnover fell to Rs 8.66 billion compared to the previous session, with 20.16 million units traded through 101,180 transactions.

Among sectoral indices, seven ended the session in the red, while the remaining posted gains. The biggest gain came from the Hotels & Tourism sub-index, which was up by 1.02%. On the other hand, the Others sub-index recorded the biggest loss of 1.62%.
