Nepse down 28.18 points on first trading day after Dashain holidays

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index dropped 28.18 points on Sunday, the first trading day after the Dashain holidays, to close at 1,875.65 points.

The market opened for trading at 1,903.65 and immediately experienced a sharp decline. The benchmark index ultimately closed the day below the psychological 1,900-point mark. Share prices of only 27 companies advanced on the day, while 201 declined, and seven remained unchanged.

All trading groups closed the day in red with the highest loss coming from the Trading sub-index which was down by 2.68%. Following closely were the Hotels & Tourism and Non-Life Insurance sub-indices, which were down by 2.63% and 1.96%, respectively.

National Hydropower Company Ltd recorded the highest turnover of the day, with shares worth Rs 40.85 million traded. Next on the list were Hathway Investment Nepal Ltd and Citizen Life Insurance Company Ltd, with turnovers of Rs 24.72 million and Rs 23 million, respectively.

Shares worth Rs 742.92 million were traded on the bourse through 34,090 transactions on Sunday. The total market capitalization reached Rs 2.88 trillion.
