Nepse down 27.64 points

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index extended its losing streak for the second consecutive session on Tuesday, shedding 27.64 points, or 1.05%, to close trading at 2,595.24.

The decline pushed the benchmark below the psychological support level of 2,600 points, signaling cautious sentiment among investors.

Although the market opened with modest gains in the first trading hour, selling pressure intensified as the session progressed, dragging all sectoral indices into negative territory. Out of the traded scrips, prices of 213 declined, 33 advanced, and three remained unchanged.

Total turnover fell sharply to Rs 5.15 billion during the session as only 10.34 million units traded hands through 46,875 transactions. NRN Infrastructure & Development led trading activity with Rs 270.09 million worth of shares traded. Radhi Bidyut Company and Union Hydropower followed with turnovers of Rs 224.66 million and Rs 187.69 million.

All sectoral indices ended the day in the red. The Finance sub-index, which tumbled 2.21%, suffered the heaviest loss, while the Others and Development Bank sub-indices slipped 1.81% and 1.47%, respectively.

Investors fear the breach of the 2,600-point mark could trigger further technical selling unless new catalysts emerge to restore investor confidence.
