KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index extended its losses for the third straight session on Sunday, shedding 25.63 points to close at 2,130.18 points.
The market opened for trading at 2,156.32 and posted some gains to reach an intra-day high of 2,165.22. However, it failed to sustain the momentum thereafter and eventually ended the day 1.18% lower.
Share prices of 177 companies declined on the day, while 64 advanced and six remained unchanged. Himalayan Reinsurance Ltd recorded the highest turnover of the day with Rs 567.91 million worth of shares traded. Next on the list were Himal Dolkaha Hydropower Company Ltd and Api Power Ltd with turnovers of Rs 229.17 million and 208.23 million, respectively.
Among trading groups, except for the Hydropower and Others groups, all other sub-indices ended the session in the red. The biggest loss came from the Development Bank sub-index, which was down by 2.61%. Finance and Banking sub-indices were next with losses of 2.55% and 2.42%, respectively.
Shares worth Rs 7.67 billion were traded on the bourse through 166,983 transactions. The total market capitalization reached Rs 3.34 trillion.
