Nepse down 12.1 points; turnover at 28-month high of Rs 9.76 billion

KATHMANDU: The share market witnessed some corrections on Wednesday after logging huge gains on Tuesday. The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) went down by 12.10 points to end Wednesday’s session at 2,163.06 points.

Although the benchmark index ended the day in the red, the bourse recorded turnover worth Rs 9.76 billion on Wednesday. This is the highest turnover since September 6, 2021, when shares worth Rs 9.82 billion were traded on the bourse.

The market hit the green trajectory initially and breached the 2,200-point psychological mark midway into the session, raising hope among investors that the bourse would continue Tuesday’s momentum. However, it erased gains thereafter to ultimately end the session 0.55% lower.

Four trading groups, including the market heavyweight Banking group, posted gains on the day, while the rest of the others ended the session in the red. The Finance sub-index posted the biggest loss of 3.51%, while the Hydropower sub-index was down by 2.8% and the Manufacturing & Processing group by 1.94%.

Share prices of 180 companies declined on the day, while 63 advanced and four remained unchanged. Share prices of four companies hit the positive circuit of 10%, while two scrips hit the negative circuit of 10%. Himalayan Reinsurance Company Ltd logged the highest turnover of the day with Rs 658.49 million worth of shares traded. Next on the list were Ngadi Group Power Ltd and Sonapur Minerals & Oil Ltd with turnovers of Rs 331.68 million and Rs 298.21 million, respectively.

A total of 33.52 million units of shares were traded on the bourse through 210,471 transactions on Wednesday.
