KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index closed 10.83 points lower at 2,030.86 points on Wednesday.
Although the benchmark index posted gains initially, it erased all the gains and eventually closed the session 0.53% lower.
Share prices of 188 companies declined on the day, while 51 posted gains, and six remained unchanged. Shivam Cement logged the highest turnover of the day with shares worth Rs 97.22 million traded. Joshi Hydropower Development Company Ltd and Sonapur Minerals and Oil Ltd were next with turnovers of Rs 83.22 million and Rs 73.35 million, respectively.
Among trading groups, all the sub-indices, except Manufacturing & Processing, which posted a nominal gain of 0.91%, ended the day in the red. The biggest loss came from the Finance index, which fell by 1.72%. Market heavyweight Banking sub-index was down by 0.56%.
Shares worth Rs 2.23 billion changed hands on Tuesday through 44,249 transactions.
