KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index closed trading 58.63 points higher at 2,682.25 on Tuesday, as bullish momentum continues on the bourse.
The benchmark index had already jumped 111.70 points on Sunday before the market closed on Monday for a public holiday. In these two sessions, the market has gained 170.33 points.
Such was the buying pressure in the secondary market that share prices of 238 companies advanced during the session while 14 declined. Nepal Reinsurance Company Ltd recorded the highest turnover of the day with Rs 385.8 million worth of shares traded. Universal Power Company Ltd and Himalayan Distillery Ltd were next with turnovers of Rs 183.08 million and Rs 181.68 million, respectively.
Although the benchmark index posted healthy gains on Tuesday, total turnover nearly halved to Rs 5.29 billion, compared to Rs 9.01 billion in the previous session. A total of 11.35 million scrips were traded through 67,382 transactions during the session.
All sectoral sub-indices ended in positive territory. The Non-life Insurance sub-index led the gains with a 3.48%, while Hydropower and Development Bank sub-indices advanced 3.3% percent and 2.95%, respectively.
