Nepse closes above 2,700-point level; turnvoer rises to Rs 11.86 billion

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) posted the largest intra-day gain since December 28, closing trading 42.26 points higher at 2714.81 points on Tuesday.

This is the highest close since September 4 last year, when the benchmark index closed at 2,719.77 points.

The index moved into the green trajectory right after trading resumed on Tuesday morning and hit an intra-day high of 2,726.75 points. Although the index pared some gains, it still ended the session 1.58% higher.

Market activity remained strong, with total turnover reaching Rs 11.86 billion—the highest since August 3 when the bourse recorded turnovers of Rs 12.84 billion. A total of 25.18 million shares were traded through 115,181 transactions on Tuesday.

Of the traded scrips, 224 advanced, while 31 declined and five remained unchanged.

NRN Infrastructure & Development topped the turnover chart with transactions worth Rs 407.9 million. Radhi Bidyut Company and Manjushree Finance Ltd were next with turnovers of Rs 390.3 million and 370.8 million, respectively.

All sectoral indices posted gains on Tuesday. Hotels & Tourism sub-index logged the biggest gain of 3.36%. Investment and Life Insurance sub-indices with gains of 2.54% and 1.86%, respectively.
