Nepse closes above 2,200 points for the first time since Jan 9

KATHMANDU: Investors have responded positively to the monetary policy for the fiscal year 2023/24, which the central bank issued on Sunday, as the benchmark Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) posted gains of 63.24 points to close the first trading day of the week at 2,277.16 points.

The market opened for trading at 2,166.47 points and continued to remain in the green territory to ultimately end the day 2.92% higher. This is the first time that the benchmark index closed the day above the psychological 2,200-point mark since January 9.

Shivam Cement recorded the highest turnover of the day with shares worth Rs 148.16 million traded. Following closely were Jyoti Bikas Bank Ltd and Global IME Bank Ltd with turnovers of Rs 137.74 million and Rs 123.42 million, respectively. Similarly, Global IME Bank was at the top in terms of volume with 570,751 units of shares traded.

All the trading groups ended the day’s trading in the green territory. The highest gains came from the Banking sub-index, which was up by 4.98%. Next on the list were the Development Bank and Trading sub-indices, which were up by 4.78% and 4.1%, respectively.

Shares worth Rs 4.37 billion changed hands on the bourse through 75,086 transactions. The total market capitalization reached Rs 3.37 trillion.
