KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) registered a loss of 33.20 points to close the first trading day of the week at 1,971.10 points on Sunday. The benchmark index had closed the previous week 18.60 points lower on Wednesday.
The market opened for trading at 2,004.58 points on Sunday and immediately took a downward journey. Although the market made a couple of recovery efforts, it eventually closed the day 1.65% lower.
Share prices of only 10 companies advanced on the day, while 220 declined and two remained unchanged. Among trading groups, all the sub-indices ended the day in red with the maximum loss coming from the Hydropower sub-index which was down by 3.32%. Next on the list were Finance and Life Insurance sub-indices which were down by 2.17% and 1.96%, respectively.
Citizen Life Insurance Company logged the highest turnover of the day with Rs 147.36 million worth of shares traded. Next on the list were NIC Asia Bank and Sun Nepal Life Insurance Company with turnovers of Rs 93.55 million and Rs 60.35 million, respectively.
A total of 6.72 million units of shares worth Rs 1.83 billion were traded on the bourse on Sunday. Total market capitalization reached Rs 2.99 trillion.
