Nepse closes 29.87 points higher; Rs 10.04 billion worth of shares traded

KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index went up by 29.87 points, closing trading at 2,727.91 points on Monday.

With this, the benchmark index breached the psychological 2,700-point level for the first time since February 5. The market continued Sunday’s momentum moved on the green trajectory right after trading began on Monday. It reached an intra-day high of 2,737.82 points but erased some gains at the day progressed. The market eventually closed the session 1.1% higher.

Turnover improved to Rs 10.04 billion compared to Rs 9.27 billion on Sunday with 18.08 million units of securities traded through 102,861 transactions.

Unit prices of 166 scrips advanced during the session, while 74 fell and four remained unchanged. Nepal Reinsurance Company Ltd logged the highest turnover of the session with Rs 326.43 million worth of shares traded. Next were CEDB Holdings Ltd and NRN Infrastructure and Development Ltd with turnovers of Rs 274.37 million and Rs 264.75 million, respectively. Share prices of five companies hit the positive circuit of 10%.

All trading groups, except for Finance, Hydropower and Trading, ended the session in the green. Microfinance sub-index posted the highest gain of 2.45%. Next were Others and Hotels & Tourism sub-indices and 2.43% and 2.29%, respectively.

Market heavyweight Banking sub-index also posted gains of 2.16%.
