Nepse closes 28.4 points lower

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index continued its downward trend for a third consecutive day, shedding 28.4 points to close at 2,019.85 points on Tuesday.

The market opened trading at 2,047.72 points and initially showed signs of recovery. However, it eventually embarked on a downward trajectory and eventually closed 1.38% lower.

All trading groups closed lower on the day reflecting the prevailing gloom in the market. The most significant loss was observed in the Trading sub-index which fell by 2.7%. Following closely were the Finance and Others sub-indices, which were down by 2.69% and 1.76%, respectively. The market heavyweight, the Banking sub-index, also recorded a decline of 1.04%.

IME Life Insurance Company Ltd recorded the highest turnover of the day, with shares worth Rs 178.93 million traded. Following closely were Shivam Cement and Everest Bank Ltd, with turnovers of Rs 67.83 million and Rs 44.33 million, respectively. On a positive note, share prices of Swarojgar Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Ltd and Nepal Republic Media Ltd hit the positive circuit, rising by 10% on the day.

Shares worth Rs 1.73 billion were traded on the secondary market on Tuesday. Market capitalization, total worth of listed shares, reached Rs 2.99 trillion.
