KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) returned to winning ways after two straight days of loss, to close trading 25.31 points higher at 2,097.55 points on Wednesday.
The market opened for trading at 2,072.24 points and moved on the green trajectory straightaway to hit an intra-day high of 2,099.71 points. It moderated slightly thereafter to ultimately close the day 1.22% higher.
Share prices of 185 companies advanced on the day, while 38 declined and one remained unchanged.
Shivam Cement was the most sought-after stock of the day as Rs 339.35 million worth of shares of the cement producer changed hands on the day. Next on the list were Himalayan Life Insurance Company Ltd and Soaltee Hotel Ltd with turnovers of Rs 92.31 million and Rs 91.40 million, respectively.
Except for Finance and Hotels & Tourism groups, all other trading groups ended the day in green. The Hydropower sub-index logged the highest gain of 4.41%, followed by Microfinance and Futual Fund sub-indices which were up by 1.87% and 1.76%, respectively.
Shares worth Rs 3.18 billion were traded on the secondary market on Wednesday through 59,539 transactions. Total market capitalization reached Rs 3.08 trillion on the day.
