Nepse closes 18.06 points lower

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) shed 18.06 points to close the week’s trading at 1,858.53 points on Thursday.

This marks the fourth consecutive loss for the benchmark Nepse index this week. After gaining 47.75 points on the first trading day on Sunday, Nepse lost 49.42 points over the next four days.

The market opened for trading on Thursday with the benchmark index at 1,874.24 points. Despite posting losses in the initial session, the market made some recovery attempts but ultimately closed the day 0.96% lower.

While the share prices of 32 companies advanced, 201 declined, and six remained unchanged on the day. Nepal Insurance Company Ltd (Promoter Shares) recorded the highest turnover of the day, with Rs 116.71 million worth of shares traded. Following were Sonapur Oil and Minerals Ltd and United IDI Mardi RB Hydropower Ltd, with turnovers of Rs 80.04 million and Rs 51.95 million, respectively.

Except for the Mutual Fund sub-index, which rose by a nominal 0.11%, all other sub-indices ended the day in the red. The highest loss came from the Hydropower sub-index, which was down by 1.73%. Following closely were the Finance and Hotels & Tourism sub-indices, which fell by 1.59% and 1.56%, respectively.

A total of 4.59 million units of shares, worth Rs 1.32 billion, were traded on the last trading day of the week.
