KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index breached the psychological 3,000-point threshold for the first time since August 15 last year, closing trading 30.76 points higher at 3,002.07 points on Tuesday.
This was the highest closing since September 16, 2021, when the Nepse had ended trading at 3,198 points.
Although the benchmark index reached an intra-day high of 3,028.79 points during early trading, it erased most of the gains but still ended the session 1.03% higher.
Share prices of 176 companies advanced during the session, while 74 declined. Himalayan Distillery Ltd posted the highest turnover of the session with Rs 644.13 million worth of shares traded. Green Ventures Ltd and Nepal Reinsurance Company Ltd followed with turnovers of Rs 638.24 million and Rs 569.21 million, respectively.
Only three sectoral indices posted losses during the session, while the remaining 10 ended in the green territory. Others sub-index posted the highest gain of 2.58%. Microfinance and Banking sub-indices were next with gains of 1.69% and 1.32%, respectively.
Securities worth Rs 18.52 billion were traded on the bourse on Tuesday through 157,525 transactions.
