Nepse bounces back after Tuesday’s loss

KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) posted a gain of 39.48 points on Wednesday to close the penultimate trading day of the week at 2,007.06 points.

The market opened for trading at 1,967.26 points. Although the market dipped after posting initial gains, it recovered and continued the momentum throughout the session to ultimately end the day 2% higher.

Only 11 companies witnessed a drop in their share prices on the day. Share prices of 213 companies went up, while four remained unchanged on Wednesday.

All the trading groups posted gains on the day led by Hydropower sub-index which was up by 3.62%. Finance and Development Bank sub-indices were next on the list posting gains of 3.2% and 2.88%, respectively. Market heavyweight Banking sub-index posted was up by 0.99%.

NIC Asia Bank Ltd logged the highest turnover of the day with Rs 79.32 million worth of shares traded. Followingly closely were Soaltee Hotel Ltd and Everest Bank Ltd which with turnovers of Rs 67.08 million and Rs 63.83 million, respectively.

Shares worth Rs 1.49 billion were traded on the secondary market on Wednesday, while market capitalization – the total worth of listed shares – reached Rs 3 trillion.
