KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index posted gains of 70.18 points, closing trading at a 26-month high of 2,310.59 points on Tuesday – the first trading day of fiscal year 2024/25.
Trading began at 2,243.07 points and remained at the same level for about an hour. It, however, spiked sharply and continued the momentum throughout the session to eventually close 3.13% higher.
Share prices of 234 companies advanced on the day, while eight declined. Share prices of six companies hit the positive circuit of 10%. Ngadi Group Power Ltd logged the highest turnover of the session with shares worth Rs 217.74 million traded. Next were NRN Infrastructure & Development and Api Power Company Ltd with turnovers of Rs 182.74 million and Rs 179.36 million, respectively.
Hydropower companies led the gains as the group’s sub-index went up by 5.45%. Development Bank and Hotels & Tourism sub-indices were next, ending the session 4.94% and 3.63% higher, respectively.
A total of 25.83 million units of securities worth Rs 9.13 billion were traded on the bourse through 119,011 transactions on Tuesday.
