Nepse above 2,200 points after nearly a year

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index gained 29.21 points on Thursday, closing above 2,200 points for the first time in nearly a year.

The benchmark index rallied right after trading began on Thursday and continued the momentum throughout the session, ending the day up 1.34%.

The Nepse index was last above the psychological 2,200-point mark on July 24 last year when the benchmark index closed at 2,200.5 points.

Daily turnover also went above Rs 7 billion for the first time since January 21, when shares worth Rs 7.63 billion were traded on the bourse.

Share prices of 155 companies advanced on the day, while 78 declined, and 11 remained unchanged. CEDB Hydropower Company Ltd logged the highest turnover of the session with shares worth Rs 152.58 million traded. Next were Global IME Bank Promoter Shares and Himalayan Reinsurance Ltd with turnovers of Rs 148.89 million and Rs 127.97 million, respectively.

All trading groups except Microfinance and Trading posted gains on the day. The biggest gain came from the Life-Insurance sub-index, which was up by 3.06%. Next were the Banking and Mutual Fund sub-indices, which were up by 2.42% and 1.9%, respectively.

Securities worth Rs 7.08 billion were traded in the secondary market on Thursday.
