Nepal’s bid for ceremonial chair faces setback as Bhusal declines offer

KATHMANDU: CPN (Unified Socialist) Founder Chairperson Madhav Kumar Nepal has offered the position of General Secretary with executive powers to party leader Ghanashyam Bhusal. In return, Nepal has requested Bhusal to support him in the role of the ceremonial chairperson of the party.

Nepal, Bhusal, and senior leader Jhalanath Khanal had initially expressed interest in becoming the next chairperson of the party. However, Khanal has decided not to contest the position. Nepal and Bhusal, however, are still in the race.

Sources close to Bhusal revealed that he has declined Nepal’s offer.

Bhusal has Khanal’s support.

The 10th general convention of CPN (Unified Socialist), which commenced in Kathmandu on Sunday, will elect the party’s new leadership.
