Nepali mission in Dhaka advises students to stay safe as clashes continue Students march in the streets of Dhaka.

KATHMANDU: The Embassy of Nepal in Dhaka has advised Nepali students in Bangladesh to avoid leaving their dormitories or residences except for essential work and to follow the instructions of their respective college administrations.

Issuing a statement on Wednesday, the embassy urged Nepalis in Bangladesh to contact Second Secretary Yojana Bamjan at +880180691013 or Riya Chhetri at +8801745407958 if their college administration directs them to move to another safe location or if the security situation at their current location becomes unfavorable.

The embassy made the request in light of the Bangladesh government’s decision to close all public and private universities and educational institutions until further notice.

According to media reports, at least five people have been killed and dozens injured as students take to the streets demanding an end to a 30% quota reserved for family members of veterans who fought in Bangladesh’s independence movement in 1971.

The embassy also said it was closely monitoring the developing situation in Bangladesh and is in constant contact and coordination with Bangladesh authorities and relevant college administrations to ensure the safety of all Nepali students.
