KATHMANDU: Police in India have arrested a man of Nepali origin on charges of working for the Pakistani intelligence agency, ISI.
According to Delhi Police, a network of ISI sleeper cells was busted with the arrest of two ISI agents in a separate operation carried out from January to March. “The agencies with Delhi Police arrested two agents, including a Nepali-origin ISI agent, Ansarul Mian Ansari,” ANI news agency said in a social media post. Several classified documents related to the forces were recovered from Ansari, it added.
Both the ISI agents are currently lodged in Tihar jail, according to Delhi Police.
Ansari was arrested from a New Delhi hotel while he was trying to go to Pakistan.
ANI claimed that Ansari came into contact with ISI handler while he was working as a cab driver in Qatar. “Ansarul was taken to Pakistan, where he was trained by top ISI officials for several days, and then sent to Delhi via Nepal,” ANI said.
