KATHMANDU: Nepal’s ambassador to Spain, Sharmila Prajauli Dhakal, met with Javier Tebas Medrano, the President of Liga Nacional de Fútbol Profesional, on Tuesday.
Liga Nacional de Fútbol Profesional administers Spain’s top two professional football leagues – La Liga and Segunda División.
According to a statement issued by the Embassy of Nepal in Madrid, Medrano has expressed eagerness for cooperation for the development of football in Nepal. He also praised Ambassador Dhakal’s efforts to develop Nepali football.
Medrano has also expressed interest in visiting Nepal. “Medrano is very eager to visit Nepal. We are hopeful that the visit will happen in the near future,” the statement quoted Dhakal as saying. “He has expressed readiness on behalf of Liga Nacional de Fútbol Profesional to cooperate for the development of Nepali football.”
According to Ambassador Dhakal, the two held discussions on starting a football academy in Nepal with the support of Liga Nacional de Fútbol Profesional and to make Nepali footballers technically strong.
Spanish club CP Cacereño visited Nepal in 2022 to play two friendlies at the initiation of Ambassador Dhakal. CP Cacereño plays in the Segunda Federación – Group 5.
