KATHMANDU: Nepal welcomed 614,148 foreign tourists via air in 2022 – a remarkable rise compared to 150,962 arrivals in 2021 – as the country’s COVID-hit tourism industry attempts to bounce back to normalcy.
Data released by the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) shows, 67,932 foreign nationals entered Nepal via air in December.
Arrivals have shown a steady rise this year with April recording the highest arrival of the spring season with 61,589 tourist footfalls. According to NTB, 88,582 foreign nationals entered Nepal via air in October which was the largest monthly arrival this year.
India continued to become the largest tourism market for the country accounting for 34.04% of total arrivals, or 209,105. The US came second with 77,009, while the United Kingdom ranked third with 44,781 visitors. Australia and Bangladesh were in the fourth and fifth positions, respectively, with 26,874 and 25,384 arrivals.
