Nepal, UAE to resume ACC Men’s Premier Cup final on Tuesday

KATHMANDU: The ACC Men’s Premier Cup final between Nepal and UAE, which was interrupted by rain when UAE was 106/9 in 27.3 overs, will continue on Tuesday’s reserve day.

Electing to bowl first after winning the toss, Nepal made the most of the overcast conditions, restricting UAE to 106/9 in 27.3 overs before rain intervened for the second time on Monday. When the match resumes on Tuesday, tailenders Zahoor Khan and Junaid Siddique will be on the crease for UAE, while Nepali spinner Lalit Rajbanshi will be aiming for a hat-trick.

Lalit Rajbanshi claimed three wickets, while Karan KC and Sandeep Lamichhane took two wickets each for Nepal. Likewise, Sompal Kami and Gulshan Jha chipped in with one wicket each. Asif Khan top-scored for the batting side with a 54-ball 46, which included seven fours and one six. Captain Mohammad Waseem and Aryan Lakra scored 11 and 13 runs, respectively, and Basil Hameed contributed 10 runs from 27 balls. Five UAE batsmen failed to reach double digits.

If the match ends in a tie or there is no result on Tuesday, the teams will play a maximum of two Super Overs. If the Super Overs fail to produce a winner, the team with the higher ranking in the ICC ODI standings will be declared the winner and qualify for the 2023 Asia Cup.

Nepal is currently ranked 14th in the ICC ODI standings, while UAE is in 19th place, which means that Nepal will qualify if the match or the Super Overs are not possible on both days.
