Nepal to play New Zealand in its U-19 World Cup opener

KATHMANDU: Nepal will play its first match against New Zealand in the ICC U-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup to be held in Sri Lanka at the P Sara Oval on January 13.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) published the fixtures of the U-19 World Cup on Friday.

Nepal is placed in Group ‘D’ along with Pakistan, New Zealand and Afghanistan. Nepal will play its second match against Pakistan at P Sara Oval on January 17 and against Afghanistan at Nondescripts Cricket Club on January 20.

The top three teams from all four groups will qualify for the Super Six stage, while the fourth-placed team will play one more match against the fourth-placed team from another group.

According to ICC, there will be two groups of six teams in the Super Six stage. The top three teams of each group will play two matches against opponents of another group that finished in different group stage positions. For example, the team topping Group A will play against teams finishing second and third in Group D.
The teams will carry forward the number of points, wins and net run rate they earned against their super six qualifying teams.

The semifinals will be played at R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium on January 30 and February 1, while the final will be played on February 4.
