
KATHMANDU: Nepal and Thailand have signed eight memorandums of understanding (MoUs) during Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s official visit to Thailand on Wednesday.
Two MoUs were signed at the government level, while six were between non-governmental entities.
Before the signing ceremony, Prime Minister Oli and Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra held a bilateral meeting. The two leaders discussed political and diplomatic relations, trade and economic cooperation, aviation, tourism and culture, development collaboration, and regional and multilateral issues, according to the finance ministry.
The MoUs were signed and exchanged in the presence of the two prime ministers.
Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Arzu Rana Deuba and Thailand’s Minister for Culture Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol signed an MoU on cultural cooperation. Similarly, Foreign Minister Rana and Thailand’s Minister of Tourism and Sports, Sorawong Thienthong, signed an MoU on tourism cooperation.
Additionally, six MoUs were signed between non-governmental institutions from both countries.
The Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) also signed an MoU with the Thai Chamber of Commerce to foster partnerships between the private sectors of the two countries. The Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) and the Thailand Tourism Council signed a memorandum of understanding to enhance cooperation in the tourism sector.
