KATHMANDU: Nepal is taking on UAE in the final of the ACC Men’s Premier Cup on Monday knowing that victory would book its place in the 2023 ACC Cup to be held in Pakistan later this year.
The 2023 ACC Asian Cup features five Test sides of Asia – Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka – and the winners of the ACC Men’s Premier Cup. The winner of the ACC Men’s Premier Cup will be placed in Group A which features India and Pakistan, while Group B has Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
Both sides entered the final following rain-affected semifinals. Nepal confirmed its place in the final as it had finished top of its group in the group phase after its semifinal against Kuwait was washed out. UAE on the other hand ensured a dramatic two runs victory (on DLS method) against Oman.
Weather forecasting portal Accuweather.com has predicted a morning thunderstorm in parts of Kathmandu followed by a thundershower in the afternoon.
If the match is not possible on Monday, there is a reserve day for the final. If the match is tied or there is no result, the teams will compete in a maximum of two Super Overs. If even it cannot separate the two sides, the team seeded higher will be declared the winner and qualify for the 2023 Asia Cup.
Nepal is ranked 14th in the ICC ODI standings, while UAE is in the 19th position. This means Nepal will qualify if the match or the Super Overs aren’t possible on both days.
