Nepal suffers third straight loss; goes down to the Netherlands by 15 runs

KATHMANDU: Nepal conceded a 15-run defeat against the Netherlands in the Nepal Women’s T20 tri-series.

Batting first the Netherlands scored 140 runs for the loss of nine wickets. In reply, Nepal was out for 125 runs for the loss of eight wickets.

This is Nepal’s third straight loss in the tri-series which also includes Thailand. Nepal suffered a four-wicket defeat against Thailand on Saturday and, while it went down by 20 runs against the Netherlands on Thursday.

Although Nepal claimed the Netherlands opener Sterre Kalis for eight runs, other top-order Dutch batters punished Nepali bowlers. Opener Phebe Molkenboer scored 21, while Captain Babette de Leede got 41 off 38 balls. Robina Rijke and Heather Seigers contributed 21 and 26, respectively. Other Dutch batters failed to reach double-digits.

Sita Rana Magar claimed five wickets for Nepal giving just 12 runs in her two-over spell. Manisha Upadhyay took two wickets, while Kabita Joshi and Indu Barma contributed with a wicket each.

Nepal was cruising at 100 runs for the loss of four wickets in 16.4 overs. However, it lost wickets at regular intervals and ultimately bundled for 125 in the allotted 20 overs. Captain Indu Barma top-scored for Nepal with 30 off 32 balls. Samjhana Khadka scored 23, Puja Mahato contributed a run-a-ball 18 and Kabita Joshi chipped in with 14 runs. Sita Rana Magar remained unbeaten at 10.

Iris Zwilling, Caroline de Lange and Heather Siegers claimed two wickets each for the Netherlands, while Eva Lynch and Isabel van der Woning contributed a wicket each.
