KATHMANDU: Nepal and Sri Lanka shared points after their 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup match in Florida was abandoned due to rain.
The ground was waterlogged, and large puddles could be seen on the TV screen as it had been raining since early Tuesday morning in Florida. Since the rain didn’t stop by 7:30 pm US time, the officials called off the match.
The match was crucial for both sides. Sri Lanka came into the match after suffering losses against South Africa and Bangladesh. They needed to win to keep their hopes of qualifying for the Super 8 stage alive. The shared points mean Sri Lanka now has only a mathematical chance of progressing to the next round.
Nepal needs to win its next match against South Africa to keep its hope of qualifying for the Super 8 alive.
South Africa tops Group D with three wins out of three, while Bangladesh is second with one win and one loss. The Netherlands are third with one win and as many losses
Nepal will play its remaining two matches in Kingstown, St Vincent.
