
KATHMANDU: Nepal secured six medals, including two gold, at the 16th World Championship of Yoga Sports held in Malaysia.
A total of 31 athletes from Nepal competed in different categories in the competition held on April 5 and 6. The event features 153 athletes from 23 countries.
Prayas Jung Chauhan won gold, while Amish Patel and Kiran Magar won gold and silver, respectively, in the men’s category (9-11 age group). Similarly, in the women’s (9-11 age group) category, Sanskriti Chaulagain claimed bronze.
Likewise, in the women’s (12-14 age group) category, Pratyusha Khatiwada won gold, while Sundar Sarki secured bronze in the men’s (15-17 age group) category.
Nepal won a total of two gold, one silver and three bronze medals in the competition.
Organized by the International Yoga Sports Federation, the championship saw participation from Nepal through the Nepal Yoga Sports Association.
Kedarnath Bastakoti, who has served as an athlete, coach, and judge, and currently chairs the Bagmati Province Yoga Sports Association, expressed commitment to maximizing opportunities for yoga sports development in Nepal in the coming days.
