KATHMANDU: Nepal registered its second consecutive win in the ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualification, defeating Kuwait by 108 runs in Ajman of UAE on Thursday.
Nepal defeated Thailand by 67 runs in its first match of the qualifier on Wednesday.
Batting first, Nepal scored 131 runs losing eight wickets in the allotted overs. It then bowled out Kuwait for just 22 runs in the 13th over.
Captain Puja Mahato scored 3 runs off 38 balls, while Sana Pravin and Jyotsika Marasini scored 25 and 23 runs, respectively. Alisha Kumari Yadav scored 15.
Ayesha Iqbal took two wickets for Kuwait, while Jeefa Zilani and Ameesha Ram claimed a wicket each.
Chasing 132 runs to register its first win in the tournament, Kuwait was all out for 22 runs. Jeefa Zilani scored 12 from 17. Other Kuwaiti batters failed to reach double digits.
Rachna Chaudhary and Simana claimed two wickets each for Nepal, while Puja Mahato, Krishma Gurung and Manisha Upadhyaya chipped in with a wicket each.
Kuwait had conceded a 106-run defeat against hosts UAE in its first match.
A total of four teams are playing the Asia qualifier which is being played in the double round-robin format.
Nepal will play its next match against the UAE on Saturday.
The top team from the qualifier will secure a spot in the ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup to be held in Malaysia next year.
The 2025 ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup will feature 16 teams. Hosts Malaysia has qualified automatically for the event, along with the top 10 teams of the previous edition. The remaining five teams will come from regional qualifiers.
Nigeria, United States, Samoa and Scotland have already qualified for the World Cup by winning their respective regional qualifiers.
