KATHMANDU: Nepal began its CAVA Women’s Volleyball Challenge Cup campaign by defeating Kyrgyzstan in straight sets on Monday.
Nepal defeated Kyrgyzstan by 25-11, 25-19 and 25-11 at National Sports Council (NSC) Covered Hall in Tripureshwar.
The challenge cup features eight teams divided into two groups. Nepal is placed in Group A which also includes India and Bangladesh, while Uzbekistan, Sri Lanka, the Maldives and Kazakhstan are in Group B. The top two teams from each group will play in the final.
In another match of Group A, India defeated Bangladesh in three sets – 25-3, 25-9 and 25-6. Similarly, Uzbekistan defeated Sri Lanka by scores of 27-25, 25-15 and 25-13 in Group B.
Organized by the Central Asia Volleyball Association, CAVA Women’s Volleyball Challenge Cup campaign is the biggest women’s volleyball tournament that Nepal has hosted so far.
