Nepal records second straight win, defeats Oman by eight wickets

KATHMANDU: Nepal earned a second straight victory in the ICC Men’s U19 World Cup Asia Qualifier, defeating Oman by eight wickets at the Upper Mulpani Cricket Ground on Friday.

Batting first, Oman folded for 117 runs in 36 overs. Nepal overcame the target, losing two wickets in 14.3 overs.

Except No. 3 batter Brajesh Shah, who scored 52 runs off 78 balls, no Omani batter offered any resistance. Siddhartha Shankar and Prathiesh Hema Ramesh contributed 16 and 10 runs, respectively. Eight Omani players failed to reach double digits.

Yubaraj Khatri claimed five wickets, conceding just 15 runs in his seven-over spell, which included two maidens, to decimate Oman. Santosh Yadav picked up two wickets.

Openers Sahil Patel and Niraj Kumar Yadav added 85 runs for Nepal for the first wicket. Niraj scored 46 runs off 41 balls, hitting five fours and two sixes, while Sahil struck 44 runs. Captain Naren Bhatta remained unbeaten at 12.

Soumya Sampat picked both wickets for Oman.

In the other match of the Qualifier, Afghanistan defeated Hong Kong by four wickets.

Both Nepal and Afghanistan have four points from two matches. Nepal will face Hong Kong, while Afghanistan takes on the UAE on Wednesday.
