KATHMANDU: The monsoon season has concluded with below-average rainfall this year, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.
Nepal recorded a total of 1,303 mm of rainfall during the monsoon period, which falls short of the average of 1,472 mm, representing approximately 88% of the typical monsoon precipitation.
While some regions experienced rainfall below the average, others saw above-average rainfall levels. For instance, Jomsom received 210.7 mm of rainfall this year, amounting to 133.5% of its average monsoon rains, according to the department’s data. Similarly, Kathmandu received 1,283 mm of rainfall, which is equivalent to 109% of the usual monsoon precipitation for the area.
In contrast, Janakpur received only 637.1 mm of rainfall, which is approximately half of its typical annual rainfall of 1,195.8 mm.
