KATHMANDU: The first season of the franchise-based T20 cricket league, Nepal Premier League (NPL), will be played between November 30 and December 21.
Minister for Youth and Sports Tejulal Chaudhary announced the event dates and unveiled the logo of the NPL during a ‘Celebration of Cricket’ event in Kathmandu on Monday.
Speaking on the occasion, Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) Secretary Paras Khadka said CAN Secretary Paras Khadka expressed confidence that a new era of domestic cricket is beginning. “I am hopeful that the NPL will add a new dimension to the professionalism of Nepali cricket,” he added.
Khadka also said the NPL has been delayed slightly due to preparations for Nepal’s T20 World Cup campaign.
Secretary Khadka mentioned that participants of the ICC General Assembly at the World Cup had expressed interest in Nepal’s performance and were keen on how things would progress in the future.
Similarly, Minister Chaudhary said highlighted that, despite the lack of a well-facilitated cricket stadium, the dedication of players and the efforts of CAN have brought international recognition to Nepali cricket.
The NPL will feature six teams based in different Nepali cities.
CAN had entrusted the responsibility of organizing the Nepal T20 League to an Indian company two years ago. However, the event became infamous for a number of reasons including match-fixing, prompting CAN to organize the league itself.
