KATHMANDU: The Embassy of Pakistan in Kathmandu awarded prizes to the winners of the 9th Nepal-Pakistan Friendship T20 Cricket Tournament 2024 on Sunday.
A total of 12 teams participated in the event which began on March 2.
Shiva Koirala, Vice President of the National Sports Council, presented the trophy to the winning team, Cricket Excellence Centre Kathmandu, according to a press statement issued by the embassy. Likewise, Lee Cricket received the runners-up trophy.
SAARC Secretary-General Golam Sarwar, Ambassador of Egypt to Nepal Noha Hamdy Ahmed Elgebaly, Ambassador of Bangladesh to Nepal Salahuddin Noman Chowdhury, and Xie Yu, Economic & Commercial Counsellor at the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu, participated in the closing ceremony. The event also saw participation from bankers, sports personalities, journalists, and civil society representatives, among others, according to the statement.
Addressing the ceremony, Koirala said that the event is now a fixture on Kathmandu’s sporting calendar and represents the close relations between Nepal and Pakistan.
Ambassador of Pakistan to Nepal, Abrar H Hashmi, congratulated the winning teams and said that the tournament provided opportunities for emerging cricket players in Nepal.
The Embassy of Pakistan has been organizing the event since 2014.
