POKHARA: Nepali Congress (NC) President Gagan Kumar Thapa has said that the country is in need of a political force capable of steadying the nation currently caught in a web of deep frustration and distrust.
Addressing a gathering organized by the party’s Kaski District Committee in Pokhara on Friday, Thapa said the party must play the role of a stabilizing force by patiently guiding the country towards a way out, rather than fuelling provocation.
Stating that there is deep anger among citizens and extreme distrust towards state institutions, Thapa said such a sensitive moment demands responsible political leadership. “The country needs a force that can hold it together. Anyone can light a fire, but putting it out requires patience and capacity. That is the strength we must embody,” Thapa said. “Anyone can spread provocation, but what we need is a politics of consciousness. That force is the NC. We will reconcile, we will manage, we will steady the country.”
Thapa said public dissatisfaction must be answered through tangible reforms in the coming days. “There is anger among the people; there is extreme distrust towards state institutions, the Constitution, the courts, political parties, and leadership,” he said. “This distrust has grown to the point where the entire country appears to have lost confidence. It is our responsibility to manage this situation.”
Identifying corruption as the root cause of the prevailing despair, Thapa said his party has now transformed itself into the country’s strongest force against corruption and entered the electoral fray with that resolve. “The NC, which earlier pulled the country out of a cycle of violence, will now lead it out of the quagmire of corruption,” he added.
Thapa also instructed party leaders and cadres to reach out to voters and listen patiently to their concerns.
