KATHMANDU: Nepal has been unanimously elected as a member of the Executive Board of the World Health Organization (WHO). The decision was made during the 78th World Health Assembly, currently underway in Geneva.
Nepal will represent the Southeast Asia Region in the Executive Board of the WHO for three years, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Health and Population.
Minister for Health and Population, Pradeep Paudel, said that this appointment has presented a significant opportunity for Nepal to promote its successful health practices globally and to adopt international best practices for improving healthcare services. Paudel also announced that Nepal plans to introduce a resolution next year aimed at holding employers accountable for the health of migrant workers. He expressed confidence that such a move would contribute significantly to the well-being of Nepali and global labor forces.
“This responsibility will help gather global support on health issues concerning Nepali workers,” he added.
