KATHMANDU: The 10th General Convention of CPN (Unified Socialist) has unanimously elected Madhav Kumar Nepal as the Chairperson and Ghanashyam Bhusal as the General Secretary of the new executive committee.
Similarly, Jhalanath Khanal has been unanimously elected as the Senior Leader.
Khanal, the chairperson of the presidium, made the announcement on Thursday.
Although all three leaders had announced their intention to contest the election for party chairperson, Khanal withdrew from the race stating that he would accept the position only if a unanimous selection were made. This left Nepal and Bhusal as the two aspirants for the position.
Unified Socialist leaders say voting was averted after Bhusal agreed to become the party’s general secretary – the third-highest ranked position of the party.
According to Khanal, the party’s Secretariat meeting will now fill other positions in the party.
