Nepal defeats Malaysia by seven wickets in play-offs

KATHMANDU: Nepal defeated Malaysia by seven wickets in the 4th Place Play-off of the ICC Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup at Johor, Malaysia, on Friday.

Fielding first, Nepal restricted Malaysia to 45 runs in 16.5 overs and overcame the target losing three wickets in 11 overs.

Nuriman top-scored for Malaysia with a 23-ball 15. Husna and Captain Nur Dania scored five each, and Nur Izzatul Syafiqa and Husna contributed four runs each.

Captain Puja Mahato claimed four wickets for Nepal, while Rachana Chaudhary got three, and Riya Sharma and Seemana KC secured a wicket each.

Although Nepal lost openers Sana Praveen and Sabitri Dhami early in the chase, Captain Mahato scored an unbeaten 23 off 32 balls to avoid any upset. Jyotsnika Maraisini scored a run-a-ball seven, while Seemana KC remained unbeaten at 4.

Marsya took three wickets for Nepal.

The result meant Nepal finished the U-19 World Cup in the 13th position ahead of Pakistan, Samoa and hosts Malaysia.
