Nepal defeats Laos 2-1, clinches PM Three Nations Cup title

KATHMANDU: Nepal has lifted the title of Prime Minister Three Nations Cup, defeating Laos 2-1 at the Dasharath Stadium in Kathmandu on Friday.

Laos had taken the lead in the 17th minute of the match. But the hosts scored a goal in each half of the game to clinch the title.

Phoutthavong Sangvilay gave Laos the lead in the 17th minute by utilizing midfielder Bounphachan Bounkong’s beautiful pass. But Nepal equalized seven minutes later as Ayush Ghalan controlled Arik Bista’s pass to score a beautiful goal.

Ayush had the opportunity to give Nepal the lead a few minutes later, but his lame sought was saved by the Laos goalie.

Manish Dangi gave Nepal the lead in the 87th minute. He controlled Anjan Bista’s beautiful pass and scored from inside the box.

Both sides had plenty of opportunities in both halves of the game but failed to utilize them.

The three-nation tournament also featured Bhutan. But the South Asian side lost its first game against Laos 1-2 and played a 1-1 draw with hosts Nepal.

Laos conceded a 0-2 defeat against Nepal, but beat Bhutan 2-1 in its second game to enter the final.
