Nepal defeats Iran in straight sets to enter final

KATHMANDU: Nepal has entered the final of the CAVA Women’s Volleyball Nations League with a straight-set victory against Iran at the Dasharath Stadium Covered Hall in Kathmandu on Tuesday.

With this victory, Nepal avenged the 2-3 loss handed by Iran in the league round match. Although Nepal was down 1-5 points in the first set, it leveled the score at 7-7 and took a 10-7 lead. Nepal continued the momentum and ultimately took the first set 25-21.

The second set was very competitive. Although Nepal had built a 16-12 lead, Iran clawed back into the game and leveled the score at 20-20. Iran then built the lead to 24-21. However, Iran missed two set points as Usha Bhandari got three consecutive points for Nepal. Nepal ultimately took the set 28-26.

Nepal comfortably took the third set 25-20 to book its spot in the final against India. Nepal defeated India in 3-2 sets in the league round match.

In the first semifinal of the day, India defeated Sri Lanka in straight sets to enter the final.

The final will be played at Dasharath Stadium Covered Hall on Wednesday.
