KATHMANDU: Nepal continued their impressive build-up to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup with a comfortable six-wicket victory over Canada in their second and final warm-up match at Chepauk, Chennai, on Thursday.
Nepal had earlier beaten the UAE by seven wickets in their opening warm-up fixture.
Batting first, Canada posted a competitive 161 for the loss of six wickets. Nepal chased down the target with six wickets and 12 balls remaining.
Although Canada lost opener Yuvraj Shamra (7) early, Kanwarpal Tathgur and Navneet Dhaliwal anchored the innings with a solid 63-run partnership. Although Canada wobbled mid-way in the innings, they finished strongly as Shreyas Movva (38) and Jaskaran Singh Buttar (21) added 51 runs at the death.
Sandeep Lamichhane and Kushal Bhurtel picked up two wickets each for Nepal, while Sompal Kami and Nandan Yadav claimed a wicket each.
Although Nepal also lost opener Kushal Bhurtel (12) early in the chase, Aasif Sheikh and Sundeep Jora added 84 runs for the second wicket to keep Nepal much ahead of the required run rate. Aasif scored a quickfire 58 of 29 balls before retiring, while Sundeep scored 44 off 30 balls. Gulsan Jha (31) and Dipendra Singh Airee (9) took Nepal home with two overs to spare.
Jaskaran Singh, Saad Bin Zafar and Ajayveer Hundal claimed a wicket each for Canada.
Nepal take on England and their first match of the T20 World Cup in Mumbai on Sunday.
