KATHMANDU: Nepal has secured a spot in the Super Three stage of the ICC T20 World Cup Asia Region Qualifier after the final Group C league match between Hong Kong and Bahrain was abandoned due to rain, with no play possible.
Nepal kept its hopes of advancing to the Super Three alive by handing Bahrain a six-wicket defeat in its final group-stage match on Thursday. With five points from four matches—two wins, one loss and one abandoned, Nepal edged out Hong Kong, which also earned five points but had only one win compared to Nepal’s two.
Thailand and the UAE have also advanced to the Super Three stage by topping their respective groups.
The qualifier included nine teams split into three groups of three. In the Super Three, each team will face the others once, with points from the group stage carried forward.
The top two teams will qualify for the Global Qualifier for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.
A total of eight teams – two each from Africa, Asia and Europe, and one each Americas and East Asia Pacific – will qualify for the Global Qualifier from different regional qualifiers. Bangladesh and Scotland have already qualified for the Global Qualifier. Four teams from the Global Qualifier will book their spot in the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup to be hosted by England and Wales.
